Janet Doroba
Gestural Figurative and Abstract paintings in Oil, Acrylic and Encaustic
Evanston Illinois

I find inspiration in memories from childhood, and more recent experiences of motherhood and domestic life that allude to the eternal. Because these elements are filtered through time and emotion, they are both mysterious and oddly familiar at the same time. Thus the figures that appear in the paintings are often singular and introspective – but never really alone. They are surrounded with an almost tangible atmosphere of living memory and subtle emotional references as seen through color and texture. Ultimately, these works refer to people coming and going, moving and changing in a gentle, but persuasive relationship with their surroundings. They are about time and space, and our place in that matrix.
